Legal Assistant – Litigation – Lewes

Based in Lewes, East Sussex

Salary range: £20-£25,000

Our specialist areas in commercial litigation are business disputes, property, insurance, health and safety, environment, debt recovery and trustee disputes. In personal litigation, we specialise in property disputes, family law, and probate and trust disputes.

Our clients include local authorities, government agencies, landed estates, receivers, national companies, charities, trustees, family-owned businesses and individuals.

The Role:

 We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join this team to carry out:

  • File opening and closing;
  • Drafting engagement letters
  • Amending documents from manuscript and copy typing of documents
  • Dictation – correspondence and emails
  • Diary management
  • Liaising with clients, Courts, Counsels’ Chambers and other third parties
  • Preparing bills, management of payments, receipts and transfers, dealing with arising queries and issues
  • Preparing Court forms using Oyez
  • Preparing instructions to Counsel

 Skills needed:

 The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience of working as a Legal Secretary or Legal Assistant
  • Fast, accurate typing skills and the ability to format documents
  • The ability to follow procedural and legal protocol
  • A methodical approach and good time management
  • Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel and databases
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Positivity and adaptability
  • A high standard of written and spoken English
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Previous experience of working in a Litigation/Dispute Resolution team would be an advantage
